Dear Friends and Neighbors,

I’m reaching out to make you aware of an important opportunity to share your opinion this week regarding the ongoing I-5 Interstate Bridge Replacement program.

I recently sent a letter to members of the C-Tran Board and the C-Tran Board Composition Committee encouraging them to stay clear of TriMet and its struggling financial situation. You can read the entire letter here.

Additionally, I’m calling on all concerned residents in Southwest Washington to attend two meetings this week to share their feedback and concerns with C-Tran officials.

Both meetings take place tomorrow, Tuesday, Nov. 18, at the C-TRAN Administration Building in Vancouver. The Board Composition Committee plans to meet at 4:00 p.m., while the C-Tran Board of Directors meeting begins at 5:30 p.m.

The past year has been marked by significant turmoil at C-Tran. Many of these issues are related to C-Tran’s involvement in the I-5 Interstate Bridge Replacement (IBR) project and the possibility of including light rail transit in the project.

Additionally, TriMet’s demand that Clark County pay millions annually to cover light rail operations and maintenance is bringing progress on the IBR project to a slow crawl.

TriMet is in financial trouble, but they want us to pay to fix it. They reportedly need to cut between $300 million and $350 million from their annual operating budget, which is currently $900 million.

If you weren’t already concerned about the fate of the IBR project, you should be now. I encourage you to attend these two meetings to make your voice heard and your opinion count. We cannot spend Washingtonians’ hard-earned money to fix Oregon’s TriMet crisis. Please let C-Tran board members know how you feel about this important issue.

Thank you for your continued support and for making your voice heard.

Sincerely,

John Ley
